Dr. James Diesfeld received pain management training at the University Of Chicago in conjunction with a Pain fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Diesfeld is a board-certified Pain Management specialist and Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology. He earned his medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, completed his internship at LA County/USC, and went on to complete his residency in Anesthesiology at Loyola Medical Center. He further specialized with a fellowship in Pain Management at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Diesfeld is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Pain Society, and the American Society of Anesthesiology. His commitment to clinical leadership is evidenced by his service as President of the Medical Staff at Thorek Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, for two consecutive terms in 2011 and 2012. Since 2007, he has been actively involved in the hospital’s governance, serving on both the credentials committee and the medical executive committee.

He maintains active hospital privileges at several Chicago institutions, including Swedish Covenant and St. Francis (Endeavor Health systems), Illinois Masonic (Advocate Health Care), Thorek Memorial Hospital, St. Bernard, Jackson Park Hospital, and Holy Cross (part of the Sinai system).

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Diesfeld enjoys academia, frequently sponsoring and proctoring medical students and resident physicians within his private pain practice.

Medicine runs deep in Dr. Diesfeld’s family. His father was a dedicated family medicine physician in upstate New York for 45 years, working alongside his wife—a registered nurse. His eldest sister is also a nurse, and his older brother practices as an OB/GYN in California. His closest sibling, Kate, is a lawyer and professor based in Auckland, New Zealand, specializing in mental health and a key contributor to the development of international disability law.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Diesfeld enjoys playing guitar, admiring classic Cadillacs, and fly fishing.
